National Honor Society -- Invited Applicants
Schedule for Spring Applictions: Letters will be sent out the week of March 12, with mandatory information meetings in the Community Room on Tuesday, March 20 (2:35 pm) and Wednesday, March 21 (6:55 am). Applications will be sent via e-mail to all meeting attendees.
Selection for National Honor Society is held twice a year; once in the spring for juniors, and once in the fall for seniors. Application is by invitation only; students are invited based on:
a. Six months of attendance at Nicolet High School (as per NASSP rules)
b. Grade point average: 3.33 on 4.67 scale (unweighted) or 4.17 on 5.83 scale (weighted)
c. No unexcused absences or suspensions from school
d. No violations of the academic integrity code
e. Once invited, student must attend a mandatory meeting to review application procedures (time
announced prior to selection) before they are allowed to enter the selection
process; students who do not attend the meeting will not be included in the selection process.
Criteria for Selection:
Scholarship: evaluated based on GPA/academic achievements during a student's tenure at Nicolet
Service: work done in service for charitable organization, without renumeration or other demonstrable benefit to student; preferably demonstrated in a variety of areas/consistently over time.
Leadership: a role in which student directs/supports the development of an activity, particularly those activities that benefit the larger community or help encourage the growth of group members, or in which student demonstrates unusual initiative and/or problem-solving skills; preferably demonstrated in a variety of areas/consistently over time.
Character: Takes criticism willingly and accepts recommendations; graciously; consistently exemplified desirable qualities of behavior; upholds principles of morality and ethics; cooperates by complying with school regulation; demonstrates the highest standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others.
